A street and high fashion take on some of the most iconic mobile gaming characters, Christine and Bianca transform into style stars.
Fashion and gaming have recently formed different alliances to capture an untouched market everyone is ready to dive in to. The biggest one in recent years was the Louis Vuitton X League of Legends collaboration from game skins, a capsule collection and a trophy case for the ultimate champions.
Aside from collaborations we see brands adding tech gaming into presentation. Case in point, Balenciaga’s Fall 2021 collection was showcased as a game– Afterworld: The Age of Tomorrow. On the other hand, brands see another potential moneymaker on the new hybrid influencers, the game champions and streamers. Gucci recently partnered with London esports team Fnatic on a $1,600 watch while Adidas collaborated with video game streamer Ninja for a pair of limited edition sneakers.
The verdict is final: Gaming could just be the future of fashion. In our first cover in 2021 we embody this collision of worlds with a gamer cover with the biggest stars of the Philippines’ video game streamer industry: Bianca Yao and Christine Samson. With an array of gaming options to be inspired with we chose the most popular mobile games of 2020 and let the girls embody their characters from beauty to fashion.
1.) Bianca Yao as Jean from Genshin Impact by Yeye Pantaleon
The main instruction was to re-create Jean’s armor into a look that is 21st century in style. With corsetry, a knight’s pauldron and tasset turned into woven armor and structured waist, Bianca is the 21st century version of the Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius
2.) Christine Samson as Cassiopeia of League of Legends: Wild Rift by Ebiro
Looking sinister is the name of the game when it comes to Cassiopeia. Her venomous stare paired up with her slithering scales make her one of the most formidable champions of LoL. With this look we wanted to mimic the scales via the illusion the net fabric provides while making sure that the slenderness of the snake is embodied via a faux leather snakeskin corset.
3.) Bianca Yao as Aurora The Heartbreak Empress of Mobile Legends by Neric Beltran and Michael Leyva
The Heartbreak Empress costume of Aurora is quite the feat in-game so we wanted to tone it down but still have the same power as the original look. Neric provided a red sheer dress with heart embroidery which was very contemporary while the voluminous sleeves of Michael Leyva added the drama to the look. We top it off with a floral leather headband to mimic the Empress’ crown.
4.) Christine Samson as Artery of Call of Duty Mobile by Geoffrey Zordilla
What started out to be a column gown but soon realizing that Artery would never wear it, the final look for Christine became all about utility. From the corduroy jumpsuit that added roughness to the look to the leather patent jacket and overlapping straps, Artery came to life and ready for the skirmish.
Together with digital artist John Dimayuga two covers were transformed into digital renderings of the characters and turned the fashion into more formidable looks perfect for the in-game arena.
