10 Sexy Movies To Stream On Valentine’s Day

Time for some sexy (movie) time

Let’s be honest. Most of us are going to be spending Valentine’s Day this year the same way we’ve been spending most of our weekends since the lockdown: at home, watching movies. This time though, we’re going to make it special—and by special, we mean sexy.

These editor-approved list (it made for a lively pitch meeting) spans decades and genres. We go from the sweaty streets of Manila to the lavish apartments in New York City’s Upper East Side to the exotic vistas of Mexico and the sun-drenched coast of Italy. Expect crazy chemistry, some filthy pillow talk, illicit secrets and a few, um, ill-approved positions.

Cruel Intentions

This Hollywood adaptation of the famous 18th century French novel swaps its chateaus for Fifth Avenue New York and its counts and marquises for a pair of teenaged step siblings and their private school cohorts. In our honest opinion, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe’s Kathryn and Sebastian could easily take down Gossip Girl‘s Chuck and Blair. This sexy movie won Best Kiss at the MTV Movie Awards for Gellar’s and Selma Blair’s sapphic experimentation, but it’s the tamest scene compared to the other ones. The entire movie is teeming with enough sexual games and enough innuendos that’ll surely get you kicked out of the country club.

Unfaithful

Olivier Martinez is every husband’s worst nightmare. Tall, dark, handsome and with the arm and core strength to keep Diane Lane, um, bumping along in a restaurant rest room. Plus, he’s an artist. Woof. Still in New York, and Lane’s bored housewife lives out her Catherine Deneuve fantasies while poor old Richard Gere goes prowling around with a snow globe. This thriller is pure erotica, and the illicit nature of the affair makes it hotter, and the stakes, higher.

Y Tu Mamá También

This coming-of-age film was required viewing for many university students in film 101. Raise your hand if you were squirming in your seat while viewing this raunchy movie as the film professor stared dead ahead, muttering something about the acting (which is excellent) and its sensitivity and intelligence for a supposed teen drama (yes and yes). If your girl has a special place in her heart for Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, it’s because she saw the reel and real-life best friends go on a sweaty, drunken, sexually explicit road trip to adulthood.

Call Me By Your Name

No matter your sexual orientation or your view on Armie Hammer’s alleged debauched sexual preferences, Call Me By Your Name‘s peach scene had us all rushing to the fruit aisle. It’s another coming of age film that’s utterly romantic thanks to its lush Italian countryside setting, complete with a decrepit summer villa, sun-dappled cobblestone streets and cafes filled with cigarette smoke. You can practically taste the Campari. This is the ’80s summer of love of our fantasies, the adolescent sexual awakening of our dreams.

Original Sin

Look, it’s Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas at their smoldering prime. We don’t know what the movie is about exactly, but that’s not why we’re here.

No Other Woman

Everyone saw this movie. Even your friends who can’t seem to speak Tagalog saw this movie because during its months-long run, all the cinemas were full, from Alabang to Quezon City. It’s Derek Ramsay, Anne Curtis and Cristine Reyes in an over-the-top Pinoy drama-slapfest with some of the most quotable lines to come out of late. And of course, it’s laden with a generous helping of deliriously hot lovemaking scenes. No Other Woman was such a big hit that it spawned several films similar in nature, but no other sexy movie has come close to it.

Basic Instinct

The infamous cross examination scene was titillating for many guys, yes, but for women, Sharon Stone’s take-no-prisoners sexuality was positively riveting. Her onscreen partner Michael Douglass, who played a smarmy yet oddly naive detective, was completely overrun by Stone’s provocative novelist Catherine Tramell. Like many films of its time that dealt with the spectrum of human sexuality, Basic Instinct isn’t without its controversies, but we cannot discount just how brutally hot its sex scenes are, and how Stone and Douglas’ chemistry was off the charts. If mom and dad rented this sexy movie back in the day, you were not allowed in the room at all.

Blue is the Warmest Color

It’s French so we were expecting its frank depiction of sex and love, but Blue is The Warmest Color went, erm, straight for it with its often graphic depictions of lovemaking. Its stars, the luminous Léa Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos, had to wear prosthetics when they filmed the intimate scenes, which have now been seared into our memory. This is again another coming-of-age film, and it follows a girl’s first foray into romance, from the stupefying bliss of falling in love to the seemingly endless depths of heartbreak.

Scorpio Nights

Peque Gallaga’s masterpiece from the 1980s revolutionized Philippine cinema, and it’s often listed as a one of best films of all time, regardless of the category. The movie is steeped in metaphor, and its unblinking depictions of sex and violence doesn’t make it easy viewing; however it’s well worth one’s time. In an interview, Gallaga disclosed that Scorpio Nights was really intended to be a “bold” film, complete with full frontal nudity from both leads and a curious scene that involves slithering saliva. If the film’s overall look, especially its stylized sex scenes, bring to mind vintage adult films, well, those were also the main inspiration.

The Secretary

Can it really be a sex list without a little gentle BDSM? Maggie Gyllenhaal stars as the secretary to James Spader’s taciturn boss. The two start an affair that gives us a peek into the dominant-submissive relationship and the sexual subculture they reside in. There are riding crops, saddles, harnesses, complex dynamics, kinks and high jinks in this dry, black, erotic comedy. It’s miles away from the sometimes silly turns taken by more mainstream sexy movies like 50 Shades of Gray (curiously, Spader’s character is named Mr. Grey), but infinitely more satisfying.
