The sun is out, the sky’s is blue and so are you.

The new year brings with it a lot of hope. After a challenging year, many of us are ready to take the next step up and out. In beauty, this brand new can-do attitude heavily infuses the 2021 makeup trends. Makeup’s new purpose is shaped equally by both the pared down needs of the new normal and the individual’s and need to create and communicate.

Relaxed Elegance

The new glamour no longer demands perfection; instead, it’s light, de-cluttered and fun. It’s a bold statement lip on a completely bare face; bold graphic liner stamped on dewy lids. This 2021 makeup trend takes its cue from Danish street-style stars: colorful yet refined; sophisticated, but with a touch of insouciant cool.

Soft Focus

From Europe’s capital of cool, head to Seoul, Korea, where K-drama stars and their picture-perfect makeup reside. Soft focus makeup has been a growing trend for the past few years, but it’s now set to take over, thanks to the proliferation of virtual meetings and hangouts. From berry-stained lips, to flushed cheeks and blushing eyes, diffused makeup is easy to do and looks just as good in person as it does streamed on the internet.

It’s Personal

Despite all the limitations of the new normal, personal style remains an essential. This is makeup that isn’t concerned about enhancement or convenience, but puts a premium on creativity and standing out. Here, anything goes, whether it’s glitter, fluorescent color or embellishments. Despite the makeup trend’s sometimes outlandish tendencies, it’s the person and their personality that shines through.
