As Boracay finally re-opened its borders to tourists after months of lockdown, we searched for the best places where you can safely enjoy your beach trip.
After many of our trips have been postponed last year, we had no other choice but to self-quarantine in the four corners of our home. But while the collective effort to save lives was front and center, the economic catastrophe for many industries, especially the travel sector, experienced a deep wound that hasn’t stopped bleeding until now.
While this may, it’s such a fresh sight to witness that the travel industry is slowly and surely bouncing back from one of its greatest hurdles they encountered, thus far. And as it’s still risky for any Filipino to fly abroad for leisure, visiting local destinations is the next best thing. After all, Philippines has Boracay, which is hailed as one of the best beaches in the world, so why bother traveling abroad if we already have it here?
Boracay has already re-opened in October 2020 and has since been welcoming tourists with utmost hospitality. But even if tourists are allowed to travel once more, it will never imply for anyone to be complacent. Following the government’s mandated health protocols and submitting all necessary documents before entering the island are still a top priority regardless if you know that you’re negative from COVID-19.
With this said, as someone who has recently stayed a week-long vacation on the island, I came across the best resort and spa that has went beyond and above my standards when traveling—Discovery Shores Boracay. As a frequent traveler, there are two aspects I always look for in places I stay and dine: comfort and safety.
Growing up, I’ve been taught to always prioritize those two things over anything else. You should never stress yourself during your trip simply because it is your only time where you can properly unwind and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life. And since we’re now traveling in the new normal, putting comfort and safety is of the essence now more than ever. So, here are six reasons why I loved this 5-star resort in Boracay Station 1.

While anyone can always hail an e-tricycle and booking a ferry going to the island, there is so much risk involved because you’re sharing your ride with many strangers. Unlike if you book your stay in Discovery Shores, they’ll take care of everything—from the airport to port, boat to the island, including all terminal fees and environmental fees. Whenever I’m on a beach trip, I always make it a point to get a massage. So, when I learned that Discover Shore’s Terra Wellness Spa is open, I didn’t have any second thoughts of booking myself a slot. I knew how safe I was because the rooms are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and disinfected with UV light. During the session, your therapist wears a complete PPE. And upon flipping upfront on the massage table, you are required to wear a face mask.
Hideaway Haven
As Discovery Shores is located at the far most area of Station 1, most tourists won’t bother flocking to this side of Boracay. That’s because there aren’t many commercial establishments near the resort, making it the perfect hideaway. And in case you’re looking to kayak around the area, you’re in luck. Not only is the kayak free of charge from booked guests, but of course, the ocean is also free from all the other activities happening, leaving you to a wide expanse to sail.
