From Runway to Red Carpet: Filipino Beauty Queens Turned Actresses

Once a queen, always a queen!

Transitioning into any new career is a challenge in it and of itself, but these ladies prove that going from the beauty pageant scene to Filipinos’ screen is as seamless as it gets. Check out these showbiz names who once dominated the local and international beauty scene.

Gloria Diaz

Perhaps one of the best examples of a beauty queen turned screen queen is none other than our first Miss Universe herself, Gloria Diaz! After she won the coveted crown in 1969, Gloria went on to star in numerous projects. Her most notable post-Miss Universe film was even aptly titled Ang Pinakamagandang Hayop sa Balat ng Lupa. We ain’t denying it!

Alice Dixson

After nabbing the Binibining Pilipinas crown in 1986, Alice went on headline a memorable hair commercial that ultimately launched her acting career. She went on to play as the beautiful Dyesebel opposite Richard Gomez in 1990.

Maxine Medina

This Miss Universe 2016 finalist went on to follow her dreams of being an actress and attended acting workshops to further hone her craft. She’s now happily playing one of the lead roles in the GMA teleserye, First Yaya.

Miriam Quiambao

After bagging the Miss Universe 1999 crown after the original winner had a fall-out with the organization, Miriam went on to sideline in a few local films such as Kimmy Dora and My House Husband.

Charlene Gonzalez-Muhlach

Another pageant queen that took her honorary place in showbiz is Charlene Gonzalez, who famously answered “high tide or low tide?” when asked how many islands the Philippines has. She’s since starred in numerous projects and made a name for herself in the local entertainment industry.
