The countdown begins for one of the most highly anticipated events in the country as Filipinos are gearing up to support Rabiya Mateo in her battle to reclaim the Miss Universe crown. With the Philippines being one day late against the timezone of the USA, the official competition will start to air on May 14 with the National Costume show, and following the next day is the preliminary competition. Last but not the least, the Coronation night will be on May 17.

Official pageant activities are now fully underway which also means we get to see our Miss Universe candidate don on a new outfit every day leading up to the competition. Luckily for us, Team Rain x Em is continuing their lookbook to keep us updated.

LOOK 013: The Updated LWD

Style Trend To Cop: Ruby Jewelry

For her arrival look at Miami, Florida, Rabiya Mateo incorporated a modern twist to the little white dress. The beauty queen wore a matching white co-ord set with fringe and scallop details designed by bridal and luxe wear designer Yeye Pantaleon. To complete the look, stunning ruby jewelry set from LVNA By Drake Dustin, added dazzle and easy elegance to the look.

LOOK 014: Slips and Simplicity

Style Trend To Cop: Cowl Neck

90s fashion trends have been cropping up all throughout the year, but the hero trend that we are loving is the comeback of the immenselfy flattering cowl neck. As seen here, Rabiya Mateo wears a cowl neck slip dress in pastel rose gold with a peek-a-boo back. Created by emerging young designer Kerby Zata the minimalist slip dress was inspired by Philippine Gold. “I wanted to capture the fluidity and how malleable gold is to accentuate the body and curves Rabiya worked hard for,” says Zata.

LOOK 15: Dancing Queen

Style Trend To Cop: Fringe Details

Embellished in various shades of pink pearls and wispy feathers, Mateo proves that queens can also have fun. Wearing a matching off-shoulder top and skirt set by Ushi Sat, the ensemble featured today’s take on the classic but versatile fringe design. Reminiscent of the 1920s flapper, feathers and fringe accents can be used in both couture and off the runway.

LOOK 16: Local Love

Style Trend To Cop: Midi Skirts

Designed by Ruffy Evangelista, the Illonga beauty queen wears another modern rendition of Iloilo’s hand-woven Hablon. This time it’s inspired by the beautiful lights reflected on the Iloilo River at night. “The said ray of lights serves as a symbolic reminder to us Ilonggos that there will always be hope even in these darkest and most challenging times,” says Evangelista. The style trend to take note of is how midi-skirts can elongate and enhance one’s figure.

LOOK 17: Sophisticated Filipina

Style Trend To Cop: Sheer Dresses

“A Queen can elevate any classic dress with a good marriage of confidence and grace. That will make her look natural and equable,” says bespoke designer Paolo Miguel. Sheer dresses can seem daunting at first but when combined with intricate beadwork, it makes for an alluring but luxe ensemble.

LOOK 18: Lady In Red

Style Trend To Cop: Shoulder Cut-outs

“The beauty of Manila sunset the embodies Rabiya’s warmth and beauty inspired me,” says Filipina designer Claiza Bihasa Uy who created the beauty queen’s empowering red look. From the runways of Chloé’s geometric cut-outs to shoulder-skin details from Khaite, the ensemble’s top sported the contemporary trend of a geometric cut-out for its neckline. This minimal yet revealing detail makes for a stylish and daring look.
