The woman has always been defined in the eyes of a man. From what she is expected to do to what she is expected to look like, the man has always been in control on what she can become. But in recent years, women have been taking these standards back into their hands to mold a new future of fashion that is inclusive and very much voiced by and for women. One of the voices who continue to push this in the local fashion scene is designer Andrea Tetangco.

“I’m always inspired by empowered women, creating something for these women and making a statement that will give them confidence,” Tetangco shares as she creates pieces that women in the city truly adore. One of the first women she looked up to was her mother. Describing her as a true lover of fashion, Tetangco could easily remember how her mother dressed up and finding herself hanging out in her store when most kids would be frolicking around the playground. Up to this day, she still holds these memories whenever she designs.

Now 14 years in the industry, Tetangco admits that she didn’t have the knowledge or the taste that she has today. But she always knew that fashion design is her calling so she focused on what she had and what she is good at. With this mindset and undying perseverance she isn’t just able to dress up the biggest stars in the industry like her muses Pia Wurtzbach, Anne Curtis and Heart Evangelista, she has also become a big name in the wedding industry where brides left and right would request her for the best gown for their special day. At the end of the day, she says, the key to success will come with every choice you make everyday “Your success is based on your choices everyday. The problem is that people want to run before they can walk. We have so much time talent and treasure so use it wisely. There’s no easy way up but perseverance is the key. Don’t work hard, work smarter.”

In this new collection exclusive to MEGA, Tetangco is in a state of mind that is considerate of current events and how the Andrea Tetangco woman fits in all of it. “This is how I envisioned women to dress up even during this time. These are basic pieces with bold statements that empower a woman.”

During the pandemic she was able to not only explore her creativity but also observe the woman she dresses. She found her women to be more practical now and prioritize comfort while still looking beautiful. And the result shows itself in the pieces she has created. Neutral shades that can easily be paired with basics are what would initially catch your eyes but as you observe the cuts and forms you see that style is also on top of Tetangco’s priorities.

Add to this airy and comfortable fabrics, we get a collection for the new woman that will come out of this pandemic. It showcases the versatility of Tetangco who as always been known for her extravagant designs. In this collection she was able to show that she has the ability to put the same craftsmanship in simpler and more minimalist designs that focus more on function, and most importantly, understands the need of the woman of today.

“(The pandemic) has pushed me to a more sustainable and innovative way of thinking. This pandemic has changed my mindset on producing and consuming. I told to myself I must come out here as a better human being, but one thing I’m sure of, I will never stop creating and inspiring people out there” she shares.

Today she is focused on her bridal line as it is the most in demand. But with women like Tetangco who focuses on data, she is always on the lookout and ready for her next move. She plans to expand her RTW line and e-commerce and bring the brand globally to more women. With that kind of thinking, the future is indeed female.
