Anticipation rises as The Crown shows a glimpse of Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana
The multi-Emmy winning and Netflix’ most expensive original series, The Crown, is already making fans excited ahead of its season 5 premiere. Aside from the show’s eye-pleasing cinematography, critically acclaimed acting, and lavish production design, it’s also known for its well-written script depicting a dramatized life of the British monarchy, and perfect casting. Recently, Netflix released their first picture of Elizabeth Debicki playing Princess Diana, and their resemblance is uncanny.
The Crown‘s 5th season will have a decade jump, and will dramatize the events inside the Royal family and the events surrounding them during the early ’90s. Peter Morgan, the executive producer, alluded to the time period in a statement, saying that the next veteran actress to play Queen Elizabeth, Imelda Staunton, would be “taking The Crown into the 21st century”. Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II
Best known for her role in the Harry Potter series as Dolores Umbridge and in the Oscar-nominated role in Vera Drake, Imelda Staunton will succeed Olivia Colman for season 5 as the new Queen Elizabeth II. She said in an interview, “As an actor it was a joy to see how both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman brought something special and unique to Peter Morgan’s scripts. I am genuinely honored to be joining such an exceptional creative team and to be taking The Crown to its conclusion.”
Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana
Elizabeth Debicki boast a list a filmography or critically acclaimed films such as The Great Gatsby, Widows, and recently in Tenet as well. She will take over the role of Princess Diana in The Crown‘s last two seasons. Previously, many people lauded newcomer Emma Corrin’s portrayal of the beloved princess, and also her striking resemblance to Princess Diana. The 30-year-old Australian actress said, “Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honor to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one.”
Dominic West as Prince Charles
Dominic West, who you have probably seen in Downtown Abbey, and in the mini-series The Pursuit of Love will step into the role of Prince Charles, taking over from Josh O’Connor. Following the incredible performance of O’Connor, many fans are curious on how West will interpret the role.
