Diamond In The Rough: This Jewelry Brand Is Celebrating 10 Years Of Success

Get ready to sparkle with exquisite diamond jewelry pieces from Tessera.

As people often say, diamonds are a girl’s best friend—and Tessera proves that to be true. With their exquisite collections, Tessera jewelry has been a part of women’s major life events, may it be an engagements, weddings, birthdays, and well, even coronations. Remember Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray’s three stars and a sun ear cuff that launched a new trend? It was made by none other than Tessera jewelry.

Founded by Carl Fider, Tessera started from curating monograms and creating custom-made necklaces. “I’m a designer by nature. I like to design stuff. I like to draw,” Fider shares. “Art is something I’ve always done.” His work is usually inspired by his travels around Asia and Europe. Having also been to Hong Kong and Belgium to meet diamond dealers and expand his business, Fider shares. “I have learnt from some of the biggies in the industry. I’ve learnt by actually seeing stones of all sizes, colors, shapes.”

Creating custom-made designs since the beginning, the brand has always valued the client’s personal touch for each design. One of which, is Catriona Gray’s ear cuff during the Binibining Pilipinas coronation that she designed herself. They upgraded the iconic piece for the Miss Universe coronation, where Catriona Gray donned the Alab at Dangal ear cuff. Other stars like Arci Muñoz and Kathryn Bernardo also donned Tessera pieces during the 2018 ABS-CBN Star Magic ball.

Of course, just like everyone else, Tessera also experienced some highs and lows. With the global crisis in 2019 and the pandemic, the industry expected a big loss in profit. But Tessera persevered. With the lockdowns, people have turned into investing in other luxuries such as diamond pieces and jewelries. Others, on the other hand, invested in lifetime commitment and relationships. “As always, our engagement rings have remained as our best seller because pandemic or no pandemic, people still get engaged and married,” Fider shared. “in fact, since elaborate proposals are not an option, people end up spending money on nicer rings that make an impact instead.”
