After the brand’s controversial presentation of Salon 02 in Berlin earlier this year, Bottega Veneta is back with Salon 03—its Spring/Summer 2022 Ready-To-Wear collection—this time in the city of Detroit.
The Salon 03 presentation is everything loud, fun, and playful. The collection features trendy tennis skirts, denim and leather pieces, and of course, oversized silhouettes. In what seems like a nod to Marilyn Monroe’s iconic white dress, models also donned a while halter-neck dress as they strutted the runway—paired with heeled mules and bright green sneakers. Seen as Daniel Lee’s sportiest collection thus far, oversized windbreakers and tracksuits were also showcased during the presentation. “There is momentum to the collection. It comes from a place of progress. It speaks to a joyful future,” the brand shared. “American sportswear and workwear is seen through a contemporary, high-performance daywear lens. A sense of individualism and freedom is expressed. A celebration of industry, engineering and revolution runs throughout in the form of metal yarn. A focus on technicality and function, meets modern, liberated glamour. The manipulation and exaggeration of construction and volume is important.”
Alongside the debut of Bottega Veneta’s spring 2022 ready-to-wear collection, the brand has collaborated with the Detroit community to establish The Firehouse: a creative space that honors people in the art community. The space features a record store by Underground Music Academy, works by Chris Schanck and Aratani Fay, and sculptures by Sophie Eisner, to name a few.
The presentation, of course, wouldn’t be complete without its star-studded attendees. Among those seated on the front row are Mary J. Blige, Kehlani, and Lil Kim. Held at Detroit’s Michigan Theatre, the Salon 03 presentation showcased some of Daniel Lee’s best works so far. Only having been Creative Director of Bottega Veneta for 3 years, Daniel Lee has since catapulted the brand to a cult-favorite.
