Simone Nadine Bornilla is the 18-year-old Miss Universe Philippines candidate that is part of the final 30 who will compete for the crown. She has proven time and time again that even if she’s a rookie in the pageant scene as big as Miss Universe Philippines, Bornilla is a force to be reckoned with. She was raised by two gay men
She was raised by her biological dad and her stepdad whose relationship she describes as being open and warm. Because of her uncommon family setup, she’s faced many unique challenges growing up. Her experiences, which include her difficulty gaining admission into Catholic schools, have encouraged her to use her platform—if given the Miss Univerde Philippines title—to give a bigger voice to the LGBTQ+ community.
She is an aspiring a doctor
This academic year, Bornilla is a freshman at De La Salle University taking up BS Medical Biology to pursue her dreams in becoming a doctor.
She’s one of the shortest candidates
She said that this year is the perfect time to join Miss Universe because they removed the height requirement. Bornilla showed that her height surely doesn’t get in the way.
She was already a winner
Bornilla was crowned as Miss Philippines Youth 2018 at age 14 and then became Miss Teen International Philippines, where she represented the country in New Delhi and claimed the title Miss Teen International Asia & Oceania.
