While most of us already have a red outfit in our closets for February 1, this year it’s all about wearing one’s stripes loud and proud. 2022 is the Year of the Tiger which means big changes and risk-taking adventures are what’s ahead of us. If you were also born in the following years: 1902, 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022, then this is your year. Given that people born in the Year of the Tiger are predicted to be “brave, competitive, unpredictable, and confident,” it only makes sense that embody the we bold energy with our wardrobes.

Chinese New Year is an important holiday celebrated immensely in the luxury market through limited-edition collections. With the big striped cat as the muse, designer brands are going all out with Animalia motifs, black and orange stripes, and gold and red hues.

Here are some of the designer brands that are worth checking out:

GUCCI

Creative Director Alessandro Michele has always used the tiger as a signature symbol for the brand. However, for this year, they are stepping it up with a new print based on a ’60s archival design by Vittorio Accornero, the artist, and illustrator behind the Florentine house’s signature Flora print.

The Maison’s Year of the Tiger collection sees the noble creature prancing in a pastel jungle. This appears on silk shirts, wallets, and even the brand’s iconic Jackie silhouette. One-of-a-kind pieces include the tiger being hand painted or applied as a patch crafted with artisanal crochet and embroidery techniques.

BOTTEGA VENETTA

Looking for a new hue to wear for the Lunar New Year? Bottega Veneta is offering a celebratory collection in a vibrant tangerine color (a symbol of luck in Mandarin). The Italian fashion house made sure to go big this year by taking over a piece of the Great Wall of China to digitally display ‘新春快乐’, a festive message of the new year.

Beyond promoting their collection, through the installation Bottega Veneta has pledged a donation to support the renovation and maintenance of the ‘Shanhai Pass’, the Great Wall of China’s easternmost stronghold known as “The First Pass Under Heaven”.

BVLGARI

From jewelry to watches, bags to accessories, bring good fortune and brighten up the year with the Serpenti Viper necklace and BVLGARI Serpenti Forever jewelry box, all in a festive red exclusive Chinese New Year collection.

The jewelry box specifically honors this year’s zodiac sign with a tiger motif beneath its top handle. Touching the tiger’s head can bring you good luck, according to traditional Chinese culture.

DIOR

Kim Jones has done his research. In collaboration with American artist Kenny Scharf, Dior’s Chinese New Year capsule reinterprets the Water Tiger which is the specific element of the zodiac sign this 2022.

With a print-heavy approach and a mix of navy, cobalt, and powdery blues for its color palette, their pieces from the likes of puffer coats, tees, hoodies, shirts, trainers to bags are a refreshing take on Lunar New Year fashion.

PRADA

Instead of opting for tiger stripes and tangerine oranges, Prada leans into the lucky color red with blooming florals for the collection’s athleisure-wear inspired designs.

But most importantly the collection is a symbol of Prada’s ‘Action in the Year of the Tiger’, a pledge to pay homage to the animal and its beauty, and also to raise global awareness for the exigency of the protection of the species. This includes donating to the ‘’Walking with Tiger and Leopard’’ Programme of China Green Foundation, contributing to the conservation of the endangered Amur tiger.
