Nicolas Ghesquière throws away the concept of time in the Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2022 Shanghai Spin-Off Show. In his description of the collection, le grand bal of Time, is all about dissolving functions and codes. More than removing the concept of time, we saw a symbolic removal of social hierarchy, discrimination, and prejudices.
Ghesquière melded historical silhouettes with the current trends, such as utilitarian clothing being executed in an opulent manner. This is something that Ghesquière is known for doing. His designs have always been sharp and cerebral. We see that in the Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2022 Shanghai Spin-Off Show. They did not only go through time, but they also controlled it.
Despite being dubbed as an Act 2 of the Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2022 collection, the Shanghai Spin-Off Show is a proof that the luxury brand understands well it’s clientele. Most of the collection came in shades of black and white, which can be easily incorporated in a personal wardrobe. Aside from this, we saw the use of denim and leather pieces that tie up the modernization of historical, utilitarian silhouettes.
As expected, the show was a huge success. There were around 158 million online viewers in China who watched the show from their homes. Their A-list guest list consisted of 1,000 attendees. Louis Vuitton chairman and executive officer Michael Burke told WWD, they expected to see an increase in sales by 10% due to the success of the spin off show.
